Original artwork (1/1) - $300 AUD
About the work
A commentary piece on the distance between a person and the relief they are searching for. Cost-of-living pressures, mental health, relationships, grief - the darkness accumulates in layers. Safe makes that accumulation physical.
The canvas is sprayed repeatedly in black and red - each pass adding weight, obscuring more, the red receding beneath the black until it is almost gone. A hunting knife cuts through the surface, tearing a wound in the canvas. Through it, partially obscured by the torn and curling edges, sits a single word in polycarbonate letters: SAFE.
The viewer does not find safety. They find the word for it. Already there, already legible, already close - held just behind everything in the way.
"It's not about the darkness. It's about what you do to get past it." - Adam Noakes
